Lambert R. Bauer, age 70 of Durand, died peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Oakview Care Center in Durand.

Bert was born on August 11, 1939 in the Durand area. He was the son of Ambrose and Marie (Schuh) Bauer. Bert grew up in the Durand area and graduated from the Sacred Heart School in Lima. After high school, Bert joined and served in the U. S. Navy. Bert married Bonnie Miner on November 26, 1960 at St. Mary’s Church in Durand. Bert worked for the Durand Hardware, Glaus Construction and for 44 years, Bert worked for Schaul’s Gas in Durand, retiring in 2006. Bert and Bonnie also owned and operated the Prairie Inn in Durand for four years.

Bert loved to go camping, fishing, watching campfires and sitting in his lounge chair with his cats. He and Bonnie took many trips up north to watch the bears. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Bert is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonnie, two sons, Dennis (Marie) of Eau Galle and David of Elmwood, one daughter Lori (Darren) Place of Beldenville, seven grandchildren, Brian Bauer, Travis (Fiancé Tiffany)and Kim Bauer, Sarah, Stacy, Shane and Samantha Lardahl, three great grandchildren, Kami Lardahl, Trinity Sjoquist and Caleb Bauer, two brothers, Bernard (Darlene) and Norbert (Lois), both of Durand, four sisters, Lillian (Tom) Drier, Loretta Meixner, both of Arkansaw, Rosella Pickering of Durand and Arlinda (Ron) Plumer of Altoona, his family companion cats, Alice and Oliver, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Donald in infancy and two brothers, Lavern and Ray Bauer.
