Marie J Styer

Marie J. Styer, age 90 of Menomonie, died peacefully on Sunday, February 21, 2010 with her family by her side.

Marie was born to Edward and Mabel (Denning) Bates on October 31, 1919 in the Town of Weston, rural Elmwood. She had five brothers and two sisters. Marie graduated from the Howison Graded School in rural Elmwood. Marie was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, where she taught catechism to the parish youth. She married Grant C. Styer on May 25, 1938. They had one daughter, Lorraine, now of Menomonie. After marriage Marie became active member of St. Joseph’s Parish in Menomonie. Together Marie and Grant farmed in the Town of Lucas and raised registered Polled Jersey Cattle which in 1976 became the highest milk producing herd in Wisconsin. Marie and Grant retired in 1980 and moved to Menomonie.

Marie was a long time an active member of St. Joseph’s PCCW, she also was a member of the American Jersey Cattle Club and the Wisconsin Jersey Cattle Club and kept detailed records of every Jersey cow they had. She also was a past president of the Dunn County Homemakers and for many years was an outstanding 4-H leader. Marie also loved to do beading and crocheting in her free time.

Marie is survived by her husband, Grant, one daughter Lorraine Styer-Sedahl of Menomonie, three grandchildren, Larry Sedahl of Denver, CO, Rick Sedahl and Carol (Bill) Lamey, both of Harve, MT, two great granddaughters, Brandi and Paige, five great grandsons, Christopher, Joey, Grant, Jacob and Josh, one great great granddaughter, Alexie, two brothers, James (Ilene) Bates and Charles (Juanita) Bates, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, La Verne, Clarence and Lawrence Bates and two sisters, Agnes Feuker and Angeline Wolf.
