Charles L. Bates age 85 of Elmwood,

Died: Monday March 29, 2010 at Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie.

Charles was born December 15, 1924 on the home farm in the Township of Weston, rural Elmwood. He was the son of Edward and Mabel (Denning) Bates, and grew up and lived his entire life on the family farm. Charles married Juanita A. Smith June 27, 1944 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elmwood. After marriage they farmed on the home farm and raised their nine children, retiring in 1996. Charles was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was very active over the years, serving on various boards. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. What was most important and meaningful to Charles was being a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was very proud of and enjoyed being a farmer. He enjoyed his work farming, spending time with his family and friends and fishing.

Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Juanita; nine children, John (Jean) of Eau Galle; Joan (Bruce) Everson of Eau Claire; Dick (Janice) of Durand; Patricia (Bob) Hawkins of Fredericksburg, VA; Jeanne Bates of Menomonie; Peggy (Rich) Snyder of Durand; Steven (Cindy) of Elmwood; Tom (Lori) of Fall Creek; Janet (Dan) Jorstad of Chippewa Falls; 12 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; a brother James (Ilene) of Elmwood; a brother-in-law, Grant Styer of Menomonie; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents three brothers, LaVerne, Clarence and Lawrence; three sisters Agnes Fueker, Marie Styer, Angeline Wolf.
