Grant D Seitz

Grant Douglas Seitz, age 90 of Alma, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in Wabasha, MN.

Grant was born July 14, 1919 on the family homestead in Devon, MT. He was the son of Frank and Sophie (Johnson) Seitz and in 1921, they moved to the family farm in the Buttermilk Coulee near Elmwood. Grant graduated from Elmwood High School in 1937. He then worked on the family farm for several years. Grant married Charlotte Keenlyne on October 1, 1941 in Maxville. In 1944 Grant and Charlotte bought a farm in Misha Mokwa where they farmed until 1968 and then moved to Alma. In 1959, Grant started working for the Dairyland Power Company in Alma where he retired from operations in 1984. Charlotte passed away in 1988.

Grant enjoyed bingo, going to races and playing cards, especially 500 and jass. He also liked to repair furniture and furniture caning. Grant and Charlotte were very active in the Democratic Party and he was very proud of the fact the he voted in every presidential election from Franklin Roosevelt to Barack Obama. He traveled extensively nationally and internationally in 14 countries through Volunteers In Mission (VIM) building churches, schools and helping after disasters. Grant was involved in the community; he was a member of the Lions Club, a board member of United Methodist Church in Alma, helped at the food pantry and served at the senior center. In his 70s he was in two plays at the Mabel Tainter Theatre in Menomonie, one of which he performed in with his grandson, Shane. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Grant is survived by one daughter, Kyle Hills of Buffalo City, two sons, Brach (Kathleen) of Buffalo City and Blake (Linda) of Eau Claire, one daughter-in-law, Sharon Seitz of Sheboygan, nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Elaine Stein of Red Wing, MN, a special friend, Ruth Breitung of Alma, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by, his parents, his wife of 47 years, Charlotte, one son, Craig, three sisters and four brothers.
