Carol F Hartung

Carol F. Hartung, age 85, of Menomonie died peacefully on Wednesday May 26, 2010 at Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home.

Carol was born on December 21, 1924. She was the daughter of Edwin and Louisa (Bauer) Gasteyer. Carol married Jim Hartung on September 25, 1945 in Eau Galle. After Marriage they farmed for many years in the Eau Galle area before moving to Menomonie.

Carol’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was an amazing cook, especially her poppy roll and apple pie! She also enjoyed camping, fishing, sewing, gardening and a good game of Euchre. Carol was an active member at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Eau Galle and in later years at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie.

Carol is survived by nine children: Mary (Jerry) Benson of Woodbury, MN, Ruth (Mike) Kasten of Rosemount, MN, Jim (Dawn), Mike, both of Elmwood, Kathy (Mark) Sommer of Vista, CA, Jan (Mike) Rohde of Madison, Peter (Kristin) of Tomah, Cindy (John) Smetana of St. Paul, MN and Tony (Tracey) of Cloquet, MN, 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Thelma (Darrell) Weisenbeck and, Edith (Arnie) Weisenbeck both of Durand, Cathy (Larry) Hei of Madison, Marge (Jim) Scheifelbein, of Onalaska, brother-in-law Robert Hartung of Elmwood, sister-in-law Betty Plummer of Durand, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents and husband James A. Hartung.

Mom will be sadly missed her children, family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 2, 2010 St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie with Rev. Thomas Krieg officiating. Burial will be in St. Henry’s Catholic Cemetery in Eau Galle.

Family and friends may call from 4:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday at Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to Mass at the church on Wednesday.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage of Elmwood, especially Dr. Murty, Peggy, Teri, Barb, Delores, Becky, Judy and Desirre.
