Helen G Slocum
Helen G. Slocum age 90 of Elmwood,
Died: Monday May 31, 2010 at the Spring Valley Health Care Center in Spring Valley.
Helen was born March 23, 1920 on the family farm, in the Township of El Paso, Pierce County, rural Elmwood. She was the daughter of Henry and Hermina (Johnson) Gunderson and she grew up on the family farm. Helen married William Slocum June 16, 1938 in Hastings, MN. After marriage they worked for various farmers in the area. In 1954 they purchased a farm on County Road G outside of Elmwood where they farmed for many years and raised their family. Helen and Bill also did custom butchering in the area for 17 years. Bill died in 1997, and in 2005 Helen moved into Elmwood and lived with her daughter until 2007 when she became a resident of the Spring Valley Care Center where she remained the rest of her life.
Helen is survived by a son Jerry (Jackie) Slocum of Ellsworth; a son-in-law, Roger Wheeler of Elmwood; five grandchildren, Becky (Gary) Anderson of Elmwood; Dale Wheeler of Elmwood; Mark Wheeler of Hudson; Jeff Slocum of Ellsworth; Shawn Slocum of Prescott; two great grandchildren, Christopher (Erin) Anderson and Nicole (Jeremy) Hannack both of Spring Valley; two great-great grandchildren, Parker Hannack and Ella Anderson; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, daughter Marlys Wheeler; grandson, Kevin Slocum; four sisters, Nora Dahlberg; Alma Stefon; Gladys Leonard and Audrey Rigelman.
