Edith L Biesterveld

Edith L. Biesterveld, age 85 of Durand, died June 27, 2010 at the Dunn County Health Center in Menomonie. She was born September 3, 1924, to Arless and Ruth (Brewer) Gunter in Pemiscot County, Missouri. Edith spent her early years in rural Missouri and Natchez, Mississippi. After high school, Edith worked as a secretary at Camp Van Dorn in Centerville, Mississippi. It was there she met Ted Biesterveld, who was serving in the army. They married May 1, 1943. In 1945, when Ted returned from Europe and serving in World War II, Ted and Edith moved to the Menomonie area, where they owned and operated a dairy farm until Ted’s death in 1990. From 1992 to 2005 Edith lived in Durand, and in 2005 she moved to Potter’s Country Home. She spent the last few years at the Dunn County Health Care Center.

One of her greatest joys was attending any events involving her grandchildren. She was their biggest fan.

She is survived by her children, Ruth Patterson of Beaverton, Oregon, Georgia (Walter) Gilde, of Vancouver, Washington, Jerry (Carol), of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, Jim (Pam), of Menomonie, Wisconsin, and Mike (Barb), of Durand, Wisconsin, nine grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Iris Stanley, of California. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, and a sister, Marie.
