James L Doverspike

James L. Doverspike, age 76 of Arkansaw, passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at the Welcome Home Assisted Living in Elmwood.

Jim was born on January 14, 1934 in Arkansaw. He was the son of Leon and Elsie (Hubbard) Doverspike. Jim grew up in Arkansaw and graduated from the Arkansaw High School after traveling around the country taking care of race horses for a year. Jim entered the U.S. Navy and later the U.S. Air Force where he served his country 27 years. He served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Jim married his first wife Gladys Johnson and they later divorced. He retired from the service and lived to Hawaii for eight years, before moving back to Arkansaw to take care of his mother. Jim married Becky Stafford on December 19, 1987. He then went to work for Schlosser Construction and North Town Ford in Menomonie before being put on disability.

Jim enjoyed coffee with his friends at the Corral Bar and Grill, taking care of his lawn, bird watching, golfing, watching his daughter’s sporting events, going to church, joking with people, writing poetry and traveling in his younger years while in the service. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Becky, four children, Pam (Chris) Doverspike of Belleville, IL, Jerry (Lore) Doverspike of New Baden, IL, Amber Doverspike of Arkansaw and Amy Doverspike of Durand, four grandchildren Charity, Stephanie, Cheyenne and Hunter, one great granddaughter, Kenna, one sister, Judy Schlosser of Elmwood, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Doverspike.
