Herman E Kuehl

Herman E. Kuehl, age 91, of Elmwood, died August 12, 2010 at the Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie, WI.

Herman was born October 20, 1918 on the family farm in the Township of Eau Galle to the late Otto and Martha (Haack) Kuehl. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elmwood where he remained a life-long member. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Hei on August 25, 1942 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie. Herman hauled milk and skidded logs before beginning his career as a farmer. He took over the family farm in 1950. In 1990 he sold his dairy cows and continued to crop the land until his death. He was very proud to be honored with the Wisconsin Century Farm award in 2008. Herman loved the land and never stopped enjoying the wonders of God’s creations.

In his spare time, Herman enjoyed reading, playing cards, watching sports and spending time with family and friends. He had a great memory for history, especially the people and places around Elmwood and loved to tell stories about growing up and working on the farm.

For the last seven months, Herman resided at the Welcome Home Assisted Living in Elmwood.

Herman is survived by his children James (Virginia) Kuehl of Elmwood, Judith (James) Martens of Birnamwood and Donna Kuehl of Weston; grandchildren Michael (Christine) Martens of Wausau and Jennifer (Paul) Loucks of Weston; a sister Marjorie (Bernard) Bechel of Elmwood; step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Lorraine, his son Thomas, and his brothers Walter, Martin, Louis, and Raymond.
