Duane L. Wieland, age 68 of Durand, formerly of Urne, passed away unexpectedly on Friday August 20, 2010 while working at Lutheran Home Campus in River Falls.

Duane was born at home in Urne on February 27, 1942. He was the son of LaVerne Sr. and Clara (Thompson) Wieland. Duane attended Urne grade school and Durand High School. After school Duane joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served on the USS Saratoga until 1966. Duane married Maxine Forster on September 17, 1966 and they later divorced. He married Twylah Carpenter on June 18, 1983 in Stockholm. Duane and Twylah lived and farmed on the home farm in Urne until a change of career path as an Environmental Services Supervisor led him to Fairchild, Elkhorn, Mondovi, Pepin and most recently for the last 14 years at the Lutheran Home Campus in River Falls.

Duane enjoyed woodworking, he had a green thumb and loved to garden and grow plants and flowers. He was an avid Packer fan and an even bigger Brett Farve Fan. He loved to go up north to the lake home on Pike Lake near Amery, fishing, taking the pontoon for rides and always helping or leading in many remodeling jobs throughout the area. Most of all, Duane loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

Duane is survived by his wife of 27 years, Twylah, two children, Randy Wieland of Nelson, Rhonda (Gordy) Weiss of Durand, one step-daughter, Wendy (Kevin) Busch of Nelson, seven grandchildren, Brody, Fletcher and Addison Weiss, Kylee, Cody and Courtney Wieland and Jaxon Busch, two brothers, LaVerne Jr. (Betty) Wieland of Nelson and Roger Wieland of Menomonie, four sisters, Theresa Zastrow of Arcadia, Diane (Tom) Bernicke of Alamorgordo, NM, Carol (Gil) Arnoldy of Urne and Barbara (Mike) Unser of Eau Galle, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
