Lydia T Radle

Lydia T. Radle, age 101 of Durand, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Plum City Care Center in Plum City.

Lydia was born on October 9, 1908 to Romeo and Mary (Ableidinger) Achenbach. She was raised on the family farm which is still in the Achenbach family. Lydia graduated from Durand High School and then attended River Falls Normal where she obtained her teaching degree. After school, Lydia taught at the school in Porcupine for four years. Lydia married Henry Radle on June 16, 1931. They had four daughters. After marriage, they farmed in the Little Arkansaw Valley until moving to Durand in 1954. Lydia worked at Gambles store for 24 years. After Henry died in 1997, Lydia moved to the Season’s in Plum City where she remained until moving to the care center on May 16, 2006.

Lydia was a wonderful cook and homemaker and loved her outside flowers. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand and was very active in the senior center. Her passion was playing cards.

Lydia is survived by her daughters, Marjorie (Giles) Patnode and Marlys (Glen) Schutz of Minneapolis, MN, Myrna (Larry) Wakefield of Ellsworth and Marilyn (Joe) Hayden of Altoona, 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry, brother Edwin and sisters, Elaine Krings and Ruth Schlumpf, grandson, Kevin Wakefield and many other relatives.
