Loretta C Hammer
Loretta C. Hammer, age 74, of Durand, died Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand.
Loretta was born on October 13, 1935 in Boscobel. She was the daughter of John and Saedie (Henderson) Tierney. She grew up in Boscobel and graduated from Boscobel High School. Loretta attended and graduated from Mankato State College with a teaching degree. She met Jerry Hammer while she was teaching in Fairmont, MN and they later were married on May 30, 1959. Loretta taught in Fairmont for 10 years. They later moved to Augusta and Trempealeau before moving to Durand in 1969. Loretta taught for the Menomonie School District, teaching at River Heights Elementary, Little Elk Creek and Oaklawn schools before retiring from teaching in 1994. She then continued to substitute teach for 10 years in the Durand area schools.
Loretta loved to travel, walk, read and golf. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Loretta is survived by her husband of 51 years Jerry, two children, Kolette (Owen Finch) Hammer of Kingman, AZ and Korey (fiancée Pamela Glover) Hammer of Yorktown, VA, one sister, Rita Tierney-Moran of Madison, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Ellen Folyer and one brother, John Tierney Jr.
