Janet M Strand
Janet M. Strand, age 90 of Menomonie, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
Janet was born on April 3, 1920 in the Township of Red Cedar, rural Menomonie. She was the daughter of Raymond and Anna (Mann) Kothlow. Janet attended Little Elk Creek School, St. Paul’s Lutheran School and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1938. After school, Janet attended Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, MN and was employed for four years as a secretary at Kraft Mercantile Company and for four years at Stout State College. Janet married Harold Strand on April 3, 1948 in Menomonie. She returned to the workforce in 1963 as a secretary for the Menomonie Area Chamber of Commerce, retiring as office manager in 1986. Janet was a lifetime member of the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Menomonie.
In her later years Janet enjoyed volunteering and playing pool with the seniors at the Menomonie Senior Center. She will always be remembered for her infectious smile, laughter and her deep love of her grandchildren.
Janet is survived by a son, Donald (Peggy) Strand of Chippewa Falls, a daughter, Mary (Mark) Reding of Goodhue, MN, three grandsons, Matthew Strand of Somerset, Timothy Stand of Chippewa Falls and Brian Metling of Red Wing, MN, two great grandsons, Collin Metling and Nicholas Strand, one brother, Howard Kothlow of Denver, CO, many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold in August of 1976 and a grandson, Bradley Metling.
