Elmer James “Jim” Howard age 79 of Menomonie,

Died: Saturday December 4, 2010 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.

Jim was born February 3, 1931 to Elmer and Viola (McFarland) Howard in Cincinnati, Ohio and grew up there. He joined the U.S. Army from Michigan on November 18, 1948. Jim served his country in Japan, Germany, Korea and Vietnam, retiring on June 18, 1969 in Virginia. Jim married Anne Komro at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Alexandria, VA on October 25, 1969. They moved to Eau Claire in June of 1970.

While living in Eau Claire, Jim attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and worked for Job Service and the Social Security Administration. He coached boys and girls basketball, grades 5-8 from 1973-82; and girls volleyball from 1983-1990 all at Immaculate Conception School in Eau Claire.

Jim is survived by his wife, Anne; and their daughter, Kathleen (Brian) Klink and two grandchildren, Jaxon and Madisen, all of Elmwood; a sister, Frances Howard McFarland of Cincinnati, OH; other siblings, Boyd (Darlene) Howard and Judy (Michael) Ground both of Bowling Green KY; Eddie Howard, Jerry Howard and Virginia Yancey all of Whitley City, KY; several nieces, nephews, cousins and –in-laws, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Ben McFarland; other siblings, Mary Lou Howard Davis; Jason Howard; his step-mother, Lona Young Howard and a brother-in-law, Clifford Yancey.
