Sylvia N Gould
Sylvia N. Gould, age 96 of Menomonie, died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
Sylvia was born on July 11, 1914 on the home farm in the Kimball Township, rural Hurley. She was the daughter of Samuel and Impe Nevala and grew up in the Hurley area. During the depression years, Sylvia worked as a housekeeper-cook at a private home in Chicago. During that time she met and married John H. Gould on April 5, 1941 in Chicago. Sylvia and John raised their family, following her husband, John’s career path, living in Louisville, KY, Anniston, AL, Hamilton, OH and Kankakee, IL. After John’s death in 1979, Sylvia remained with her children and later moved with her daughter Ruth and her family to Wisconsin. The last 13 years, she has lived here in Menomonie.
Sylvia was very proud of her Finnish heritage, making several trips to Finland with her family.
Sylvia is survived by her three children, John S. (Brenda) Gould of Sun Prairie, Ruth (John) Abney of Menomonie, Kristine (Kenny) Kieffer of Wrightstown, seven grandchildren, Ben, Amy, John H., Sara, Samantha, Rachel and Jamie and two great grandsons, Jacob and Logan, a special niece Kathy Vittone and special nephew Marvin Nevala, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband John H., three brothers, Eino, Oni and Tovio Nevala and three sisters, Elvera Talo, Elsie Bauer and Elaine Kubacki.
