Verla L "Birdie" Kraft
Verla L. “Birdie” Kraft, age 84 of Durand, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at her home, the Durand Assisted Living in Durand.
Birdie was born on July 30, 1926 in the Town on Dunnville, rural Dunn County. She was the daughter of Leon and Margaret (Kelly) Kraft. Birdie moved to Durand with her family and lived with her parents. She later moved to Eau Galle to live with her sister, Barb and Herb for several years. In 2003, Birdie moved to her home at the Durand Assisted Living, where she remained the rest of her life.
Birdie liked to go with Herb and sell aluminum cans and get a soda afterwards, eating ice cream, going to Culvers for fish and Alex’s Pizza for pizza and pop. Most of all Birdie loved to spend time with family and friends.
Birdie is survived by her eight sisters, Lavone Husby of Eau Claire, Betty (Robert) Luther of Chippewa Falls, Isabel Seipel of Pardeeville, Clara (Jim) Gifford of Durand, Kathryn (Darrell) Bauer of Menomonie, Karen (Raymond F.) Bauer of Durand, Judy Manor of Eau Claire and Barbara (Herb) Schneider of Trego, three brothers, Larry (Catherine) of Cincinnati, OH, Daniel (Dianne) of Arizona and Darrell (Donna) of Wyoming, MN, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, her extended family at the Durand Assisted Living, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Weissinger, two brothers, Jim and Elwood “Toby.”
Birdie had so much love to give and was very loved by her family. She is our angel now in heaven with “Momma, Papa and Jesus.”
