Myrtle M. Webb of Menomonie, died Thursday morning, June 16, 2011 at the Dunn County Health Care Center. The daughter of Edward and Huldah (Dahlgren) Johnson, she was born February 11, 1909 in Ella, WI. Myrtle attended the Ella school and graduated from Pepin County High School. Soon after, she attended River Falls Teacher’s College to earn her teaching certificate. In her early teaching career, she taught at the Cady Creek School for a year and then married James Herman Webb on December 30, 1929. She continued her college work for one more year after they were married. Myrtle taught for eleven years at various schools in Pierce and Pepin counties and also at Durand Elementary. The couple farmed north of Rush River where their son Jerry was born. They purchased a farm near Grange Hall where they lived until James’ untimely death.

Myrtle then moved with her son Jerry to Durand where she taught second grade for a time. They moved to Phoenix, AZ where she taught for several years and then moved to West Covina, CA where Myrtle taught for four years and while she earned her degree from the University of California. The following eleven years she taught overseas with the Air Force Education program. She travelled extensively with the Air Force Education program, teaching in Okinawa, Germany, Africa, the Philippines, Turkey, Alaska and Hawaii. In all, she travelled around the world via airplane seven times. She received numerous teaching commendations including one given to her by a Colonel in the Air Force. While teaching overseas, Myrtle also helped with missionary work in the name of Christ. She applied her teaching skills to promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ whenever possible.

After her retirement, she first returned to Phoenix and a later returned to Wisconsin when she married Clark Webb on February 19, 1977. She was an active member of the Methodist church in Elmwood. The couple resided on the farm near Elmwood, WI until Clark’s death on July 18, 1994. Myrtle later moved to Menomonie where she spent several years residing at Autumn Village. During that time she was actively involved at the Missionary Alliance Church and continued to support overseas missions in any way she could. She was deeply committed to promoting the Gospel overseas and the study of the scriptures with friends and family.

She is survived by her son Jerry (Ine) Webb of Houston, TX, stepdaughters, Amy Schreiber, and Patricia Hetland and step son Allen Webb. She also is remembered by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren across the country. Myrtle is also remembered by the countless children and families that she shared the Gospel with across the world, truly fulfilling Christ command to go into all nations in His name. She is fondly remembered by a great multitude of friends that all consider her part of their family in the name of Christ.

A memorial service graciously provided by the Missionary Alliance Church in Menomonie will be, Wednesday, June 22 at 10:30 AM. A private family interment service will take place at Spring Lake Cemetery in Elmwood on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers gifts are requested to be given to the Missionary Alliance church for continued work in overseas missions.
