Annette Harbour-Wedeward

Annette Rockwell Harbour Wedeward age 96 of Stoughton, formerly of Menomonie passed away on Friday, July 22, 2011 from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 96 in Stoughton. Annette Rockwell was born on January 16, 1915 in Junction City, Kansas. She joined her parents, Cecil and Walter Rockwell, as well as her siblings, brother David and sister Jane. Her high school days were spent in Iron River and Lake Mills, WI.

She attended Lawrence College in Appleton, WI. On December 22, 1935, Annette married Myron Harbour. Three children, Patricia, Robert and John were born of this fifty-year marriage. The family lived in Iron River, Campbellsport, Portage, and Menomonie, WI. They lived in Menomonie for the majority of this time where Myron was a college professor. They had an active life with friends from University of Wisconsin at Stout and the Menomonie community. Annette was an avid reader and excellent bridge player. She also enjoyed games such as backgammon, darts and cribbage, which engaged her competitive spirit. Annette was active in the Congregational Church and P.E.O. Chapter AN, as well as participating in organizations to which her children belonged. Her home, family, and friends have always been very special to Annette. She was a loving, devoted wife, and mother

Annette was also a proud, loving grandmother and great grandmother. Grandchildren include Patricia’s two sons, Steve Waggoner (Pamela) and John Waggoner (Sue). Robert’s family includes wife Mary, daughters Allison Gill (Justin), Heather Oxer (Jeremy), Holly Boyer (Michael), and son Robert John Harbour (Helen). John’s son is Mark Harbour (Margaret Gabriel). Annette often exclaimed that she never considered that she would be lucky enough to be a great grandmother. However, she was blessed with eight great grandchildren: Joseph and Ryan Waggoner, Eric, Michael and Kathryn Annette Harbour, Annie and Lucy Oxer and Lucas Boyer.

After Myron’s death, Annette attended a class reunion in Lake Mills. While there, Annette became reacquainted with her “high school sweetheart”, James Wedeward, who had also lost his spouse. They were married on August 2, 1991 in a beautiful chapel on Bald Head Island, NC with many family members in attendance. Annette moved to Stoughton where Jim lived and soon became a Badger fan along with Jim. They often spent their winters in Destin, Fl and traveled a lot, even flying to visit son Bob’s family when they lived in Australia. Annette enriched and touched the lives of the people she met throughout her life. Annette’s family wishes to extend a special “thank you” to the Harbor House staff, Hospice and Phoebe Baker for the love and care they provided to Annette.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ at 420 Wilson Avenue, Menomonie WI with Rev. Rob MacDougall officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery also in Menomonie. Rhiel Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Menomonie is serving the family.
