Gary A Smith
Gary A. Smith age 71 of Durand, died Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the Oakview Care Center in Durand, with his family by his side.
Gary was born on March 27, 1940 at home in Eau Galle. He was the son of Roy and Clara (Clayson) Smith. Gary grew up in the Eau Galle area and graduated from Durand High School in 1957. Gary married Sharon Baier on June 27, 1960 at St. Henry’s Church in Eau Galle. After marriage, they lived in the Durand Area.
Gary owned and operated Durand Oil from 1965-1998, Smith and Son’s Sewer Service from 1977-2001. He enjoyed and appreciated the many friends he made while he was in business. Gary also owned a 40 acre hobby farm in the Town of Waubeek. In his spare time, Gary enjoyed restoring old cars, tractors, gas engines and antiques. Most of all, Gary loved spending time with his family, children and grandchildren, all of which he was very proud of.
Gary is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon, four sons, Mike (Fiancé Julie) of Durand, Rob (Renee) of Eyota, MN, Joe (Rose) of Roberts, and Steve (friend Theresa) of Durand, eight grandchildren, Megan (Tom), Lindsey, Tyson, Brittany, Matthew, Trenten, Alivia and Ellie, one brother, Gordon (Elinor) of Eau Galle, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister in infancy, Ellen Smith.
