Lavone E. Benson-Husby age 88 of Elk Mound,

Died Saturday March 10, 2012 at Colfax Health & Rheb surrounded by her family.

Lavone was born February 1, 1924 in the Dunnville area of Dunn County. She was the daughter of Leon and Margaret (Kelly) Kraft and later the family moved to Durand. Lavone graduated from Durand High School in 1942. She married Lloyd Benson July 25, 1942. After marriage they lived in Baraboo during WW II where they both worked at the ammunitions plant in Baraboo. After the service they returned to the Menomonie area and raised their family. Besides raising nine children, she was a loving caregiver to many in the area. Lloyd died in 1982 and later Lavone married Lawrence Husby in 1991 and Lawrence died in 1998.

Lavone loved to go dancing; she enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, and singing. Lavone was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elk Mound. Lavone’s faith was a very important part of her life.

Lavone is survived by nine children; Sandra (Dennis) Grimm of New Auburn; Sharon (Ursula Schoebel) Benson of Germany; Beverly (James) Glampe of Hayward; Phyllis (Michael) Jenson and David (Cheri) Benson both of Elk Mound; Joseph (Tina) Benson of Casper, WY; Dawn (Joseph) Haas of Arena; Mark (Mary) Benson of Eau Claire; Mary (Daniel) Sautter of Eau Claire; 30 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Larry of Cincinnati Ohio; Daniel of Green Valley AZ; Darrell of Wyoming, MN; seven sisters, Betty Luther of Chippewa Falls; Isabell Seipel of Pardeeville; Clara Gifford and Karen Bauer both of Durand; Kay Bauer of Menomonie; Judy Manor of Eau Claire; Barb Schneider of Trego along with several brothers and sisters-in-law, stepchildren and grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two brothers, Toby and James Kraft; two sisters, Birdie Kraft and Mary Weissinger; two great grandchildren Devin and Kandas, several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
