Louise E Steinke

Louise E. Steinke, age 95 of Menomonie, died Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Luther Hospital in Eau Claire.

Louise was born June 3, 1912 to Frank and Frances (Stoll) Wedam in the Town of Weston, rural Dunn County and grew up in the community. She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School. Louise did housekeeping work for the nuns and housekeeping for Dr. Halgren for many years. She also served dinner parties at the Wilson House. Louise married Herbert Steinke November 16, 1937 in Menomonie. After marriage, they farmed in the Town of Weston for many years. Louise remained on the farm for 70 years. Herbert passed away in 1995. Louise received the Century Farm Award in 2004.

Louise was always willing to help anybody in need. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church all of her life. Louise enjoyed gardening, taking care of her birds, cooking, baking, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Louise is survived by three children, LaVerne (Roxann) Steinke of Clermont, FL, Gerald (Mary) Steinke of Napa, CA and Shirley (Tom) Rude of Colfax, nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, two sisters, Bertha Krieger of Sun City, AZ and Mary Spindler of Menomonie, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herbert, three brothers, Joe, John and Alvin Wedam, and three sisters, Ann and Rose Hofacker and Elsie Gatten.
