Steven D Sockel
Steven Duane Sockel age 63 of Menomonie, formerly of South St. Paul, MN, died Tuesday September 4, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Menomonie, surrounded by his family.
Steve was born October 18, 1948 in Taylorville, IL. He was the son of Frank and Geraldine (Fuller) Sockel and grew up in Taylorville. He graduated from Taylorville High School in 1966. Steve served in the U.S. Navy for two years. After the service he began his career as a cattle buyer and worked at various locations around the country. Steve also owned and operated the One Mile Inn in Taylorville for several years.
Steve is survived by his wife, Penny; two daughters, Shuree Sockel (Wayne Haar); Amy (Tim) Fila; three grandchildren, Arin, Morgan and Charlie; his mother, Geraldine Sockel; two sisters, Sandy Fassero; Nancee (Duane) Meester; three brothers, David (Sharon) Peters; Gary (Janet) Sockel; Mark (Charlene) Sockel; two stepchildren, Travis (Brooke) Hamar; Tracy (James) Bradley; three step grandchildren, Jasmine, Aidan & Maggie, many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Steve is preceded in death by his father, Frank in 2010
In lieu of flowers memorials are prefered.
A time of gathering will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday September 10, 2012 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Menomonie.
