Edith D. Hughes age 104 formerly of Knapp, Lucas Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 26, 2012 at Park View Home in Woodville where she has resided for the last six years.

Edith was born August 2, 1908 in Menomonie to Julius and Mary (Traxler) Laatch. She graduated from Menomonie High School in 1924. On October 16, 1929, she married Phil Hughes at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie. After marriage they lived and worked on the Hughes farm where Phil was born. They were married for 76 years when Phil passed away in 2006.

For years Edith was involved in the Lucas Women’s Club. Edith enjoyed fishing & camping after retiring. Edith and Phil traveled to Texas and Arizona in their motor home in the winter months. She was a life long parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Menomonie.

Edith is survived by a son Gene (Lynne) of Eagan, MN; a daughter-in-law, Joan Hughes of Menomonie; grandchildren, Debra (David) Johnson; David (Jackie) Hughes; Dawn (Mike) Seaton; Charles (Jacqueline) Hughes; Daniel (Jonda) Hughes; 12 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Phil; a son Wayne; great grandson, Gregory; brothers, Laverne, Gerald & Francis Laatch; sisters, Mabel Tetzloff and Julia Kastning.

The family wishes to thank the nurses & staff at Park View Home for the great care of Edith for the past six years, and recently Adoray Hospice & volunteers.

Memorials are preferred to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the donor’s choice
