Dorothy M Sheppard
Dorothy M. Sheppard age 101 of Menomonie, passed away on Friday October 5, 2012 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
Dorothy was born June 3, 1911 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Warren Edward & Mae Belle (Pratt) Morris. She grew up in the Chicago area, graduating from Lakeview High School. Dorothy worked as a secretary at the Chicago Daily News for several years. She met and later married George H. Sheppard on April 27, 1933. They raised their sons in Prospect Heights, IL. During this time Dorothy volunteered her time and talents in community, schools and scouting activities. After retirement they moved to Tomahawk, WI and later to Chetek. George passed away in 1982 and in 1984 Dorothy moved to Menomonie. While there she volunteered at her church, traveled with various senior tour groups, and maintained her interest in her arts and crafts. Dorothy's pie crusts and multi layer cakes had no equals. In 2006 she became a resident of the Dunn County Health Care Center where she has remained the rest of her life.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, George (Mary) of Menomonie and John (Linda) of Beaufort, SC; eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband George, Sr.
The family appreciates all of the excellent care and attention given to Dorothy at the Dunn County Health Care Center.
Per Dorothy’s wishes her body was gifted to the Anatomy Department at Mayo Clinic Health Services in Rochester, MN.
Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Saturday November 10, 2012 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Menomonie with Rev. Rob MacDougall officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
