Loren G Fimian

Loren G. Fimian, age 75 of Nelson, died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at his home in rural Nelson.

Loren was born on December 29, 1936 in rural Waumandee. He was the son of George and Edna (Zirzow) Fimian. Loren grew up in the Waumandee area, attended Anchorage Grade School and graduated from Cochrane High School in 1954. After high school, Loren worked on the family farm for several years. He joined the Wisconsin National Guard in Arcadia and served state-side for eights years until being honorably discharged. Loren worked in Winona, MN at Whitcraft Boats for a number of years. He married Ardys Hoksch on October 1, 1960 at the United Church of Christ in Alma and together they had 37 years of marriage. Loren was a member of the Alma United Church of Christ for most of his life and served at various offices within the church. After marriage, Loren and Ardys continued to live in Waumandee and worked for Froedert Malt Corp. in Winona, MN until retiring. Loren and Ardys moved to Nelson in 1994. In retirement, Loren continued to work for Froedert Malt Corp. as an export inspector for over seas shipping until 2010 and part time at the Merchant Bank in Winona, MN.

Loren's passion in life was his pumpkin patch. He grew them in Waumandee and also for many years in Nelson. Many of the proceeds from selling pumpkins in the fall went to the Alma United Church of Christ and the Alma American Legion Post #224. Loren also enjoyed traveling with Ardys across the United States and also abroad, taking a special trip to Switzerland. He also liked to antique, deer hunting, and read. Most of all, Loren enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Loren is survived by his brother; Donald (Sharon) of Alma, four sisters-in-law; Betty (Glen) Corum of Ramsey, MN, Sharon (Allen) Wick of Gilmanton, Marlet (David) Berg of Mondovi, Sonya (Steven) Fernholz of Hager City, two brothers-in-law; Orlyn (Karla) Hoksch of Alma and Daryl (Cheryl) Hoksch of Pardeeville, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ardys in December of 1997.
