Awald J. Weiss, age 86 of Durand

Died: March 17, 2008 at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand
Awald was the son of Sigfried and Louise (Pichler) Weiss. He was born and raised in the town of Albany, Pepin County, rural Durand. Awald married Lois Ann Strauch June 26, 1954 in Altoona. After marriage, they lived in the town of Albany until moving to the City of Durand in 1961, where he remained for the rest of his life. Awald worked for the Pepin County Highway Department for 27 years and he also owned and operated an electrical service business.
Awald’s hobbies included woodworking, sign painting, gardening, walking, and planting flowers along the bike trail. He loved dancing and winning at cards. He greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Awald is survived by his wife, Lois, two daughters, Vicky (Nick) Hartung of Arkansaw, Pamela (Bryan) Bauer of Durand, three sons, Michael (Teresa) of Menomonie, Timothy (Kris) of Red Wing, MN, Mark of Monroe, thirteen grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, three sisters, Eileen Butler of Rock Falls, Rosina Brand of Kenosha, Laura (Herman) Berger of Eau Claire, four brothers, Roland of Racine, Bill (Zita Stewart) and Tom (Judy), both of Durand, Sig (Denise) of Arkansaw. He was preceded in death by his parents.
