Gordon D Smith

Gordon D. Smith age 80 of Eau Galle, died Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Oakview Care Center in Durand, with his family by his side.

Gordon was born on August 2, 1932 in rural Elmwood. He was the son of Roy and Clara (Clayson) Smith. Gordon grew up in the Eau Galle area and graduated from Durand High School. In 1952, Gordon was drafted into the U.S. Army and served stateside until being Honorably Discharged in 1954. Gordon married Elinor Baskin on June 17, 1954 in Menomonie. After marriage, Gordon and Elinor lived in Eau Galle where they raised their family and he worked at the Eau Galle Cheese Factory for 38 years. He retired from the cheese factory in 1991.

Gordon enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, trapping and cracking butternuts. He loved going to the casino, playing cards, playing dart ball and watching Packer games. Most of all, Gordon liked to spend time with family and friends.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elinor, three sons; Dave (Lynnette) and Greg (Wendy), both of Menomonie and Doug (Becky) of Durand, seven grandchildren; Stacy (Jake) Bloom, Travis (Jen) Smith, Kyle Smith, Jennifer (David) Shudy, Brian (Finance` Hayley) Smith, Kylee (Lane) Johnson, Aaron Smith, two great children; Clayton Smith and Maxwell Bloom, one sister-in-law; Sharon Smith of Durand, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Gary and one sister in infancy.
