Gordon P "Gordie" Hintermeyer

Gordon P. "Gordie" Hintermeyer, age 80, of Rock Falls, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at his home in Rock Falls, with his wife by his side.

Gordie was born on August 29, 1932 in Eau Claire. He was the son of Arthur and Laura (Norrish) Hintermeyer. Gordie grew up in Rock Falls and graduated from Durand High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and served in Germany, Gordie was honorably discharged in 1956. On December 30, 1953, Gordie married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Stewart. Gordie worked at 3M in Menomonie for 30 years. Gordie lived in Rock Falls all of his life.

Gordie was a member of the Mason's for over 50 years where he was an area administrator and District Deputy. He also served as a Shriner and a Tin Lizzy driver. Gordie’s other contributions included serving as a Rock Creek Lutheran Church Council President, County School Committee and Durand School Board. He loved sports and he refereed high and college sports all over the state for many years. Gordie was an avid golfer, bowler and hunter.

Gordie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine, his sons; Mark (Laurie) of Moorhead, MN and David (Mary) of New Berlin, three grandchildren; Bradley (Kristen) of West Fargo, ND, Alison (Brent) Olson of Duluth, MN and Erin Hintermeyer of Chippewa Falls, one great granddaughter; Lauren Hintermeyer. He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Kim and his brother; Vernon.

The family would like to thank his caregivers; Dean and Tammy Ableidinger, Karol Creaser, Jason, Tonya and MaKenna Rieck and his 4 year old special private nurse, Ali Rieck , for all their love and support.

Friends may call from 4-7 PM Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday followed by a funeral Service at 7:30 PM with Rev. Thomas Bryan officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Durand American Legion Post #181. Burial will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery in Rock Falls at a later date.
