Anne K. Meyers

Anne K. Meyers

Anne Kathleen (Carey) Meyers, age 88 of Menomonie, past away Thursday, May 1st 2014 in her own home.

Anne was born in Kingsford, Michigan in 1926 to Charles and Lula (Wright) Carey.  As a young woman Anne worked as a secretary in MI, Washington D.C., and Great Lakes, IL. While interested in drawing as a young child, her adult interest in art was originated by a Rembrandt exhibit at the National Gallery during her time in D.C. In 1949 she and her sister Jean traveled to Ireland, their father’s homeland. On September 2nd 1950 Anne married DJ (Jim) Meyers in Kingsford, Michigan. They had four children.

Jim’s job took the growing family to Italy and Switzerland, allowing summers home with family in Northern MI. While in Europe, Anne gave herself and her children a wonderful education in art from the many museums she visited.

Following the death of her husband, Anne and her cat Misty moved from her long-time home in PA, to Menomonie, WI so that she could be closer to family. She designed her home with an art studio on the second floor so that she was able to pursue her interest in oil and acrylic painting and in quilting. Her back yard was home to a great variety of birds and other wild life of which Anne passionately cared for and appreciated.

In the 1980s and ‘90s Anne and her sister Frances went several more times to Ireland. After Misty’s death in 2007, Anne opened her home to a stray kitty, Tawny, who had adopted Anne. As time went on, Anne’s health declined so Anne and daughter Kathleen joined households.

For the few days Anne chose to be home on hospice, she was able to hold her kitty, drink really good coffee, and see a plethora of birds. The warbler who makes its appearance for only a few days each spring came the day before she died. She passed peacefully. Anne Kathleen Carey Meyers is another vivid example of a life well-lived.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband DJ Meyers, her son Richard Carey Meyers, and her brother Charles Carey. Anne is survived by her children Michael Meyers (Centerville, VA), Kathleen Meyers-Welsch (Menomonie, WI), and Daniel Meyers (Tucson, AZ); grandchildren Colleen Cather (VA), David (Kristy) Meyers (Cottonwood, AZ), Anne Meyers-Welsch (Minneapolis, MN); great granddaughters Fiona and Porter Cather (VA); sisters Jean (Bernie) Zeitz (Iron Mountain, MI) and Frances (Buzz) Elliott (Milwaukee, WI); and many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 5, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Menomonie. Rev. Thomas Krieg will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in Northern Michigan. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

I'm so sorry for your loss of this remarkable woman. May you be comforted by your many wonderful memories of happier times and by God's promise in Psalms 46:1 of being a refuge and strength for us when we are in distress. His loving promise of the resurrection (Acts 24:15) gives us a hope for the future when we can see our dear loved ones again. May reflecting on these thoughts sustain you through this difficult time and give you hope for the future. You have my deepest sympathies.
