Joyce D. Oberding

Joyce D. Oberding

Joyce Delores Oberding became an angel among us as she went to her eternal home, Monday April 27, 2015 at the Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand.

Joyce was born June 7, 1932 in Appleton, Wisconsin to Franklin and Hilda (Jens) Lostetter. As a young child she grew up in Appleton and Wayzata MN, and eventually came to Plum City.  Joyce graduated from Plum City High School and went onto the technical School in Eau Claire for two years, for accounting.  Joyce worked in accounting and then met the love of her life, Richard Oberding.  They were married on September 19, 1958 in Plum City.  After marriage they moved to Ellsworth where Joyce worked as a cook at the Hilltop restaurant in Ellsworth for several years.  This union was blessed with two sons, George and Duane.  In the late 1960’s they moved to Durand where Joyce worked at the Durand Café and later the Durand Hospital until her retirement.

Joyce enjoyed doing needlepoint, crocheting, and knitting.  She liked to go fishing, antiquing, going to plays and traveling.  Joyce was an avid bird watcher. However, mostly she enjoyed spending time simply surrounded by her family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her son, Duane (Joanne) of Arkansaw; daughter-in-law, Ann Oberding of Eau Claire, three grandsons, Matthew, Kyle and Nicholas Oberding all of Eau Claire, and many other relatives and friends.  Joyce will be remembered as a caring and gentle soul.  Never an unkind word was ever spoken from her mouth, for she cherished all she met.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband Richard in 1979, a son George in 2010 and three brothers, Gerald Schroeder, Guy and David Lostetter.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand and one hour before the services at the funeral home on Saturday.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday May 2, 2015 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand with Rev. Michelle Nickodemus officiating.  Burial will follow the services in the Union Cemetery in Plum City.

    Dear Joyce's family,

Just want to express my sympathy to you. I first worked with Joyce at the Durand cafe and later at the Durand hospital and I have nothing but fond memories. I still have a bedspread that she crocheted and I bought. I still love it.

Will keep you in thought and prayer.

    Carol Richardson

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Joyce. She was a very nice lady when she came into the library to pick up her Clive Cussler books. Sympathy to the family.
